What Kids Can Teach Us About Life
April 02, 2002 10:11 pm

I've decided not to do the update with the changes in my life right now...The more I think about it, the more at peace I am with everything. I know the changes don't mean the people involved will be out of my life--and that feels good. Change, while hard to accept, isn't always bad and I understand that--and I'm really "getting it" in these two situations. Situations don't make us friends or keep that friendship alive--true friends will be friends, no matter. :-) It'll all be okay. And I will be okay.

I found a great article in the April 2 issue of Family Circle. Its rather long, so I'm gonna' split it into a few entries. But WOW--I like these!!! I especially like 3, 8 and 13. Which ones do you like?

1. Each and every birthday is a big deal. Even if you can no longer count your age on your fingers, you deserve a birthday party with friends, a cake, presents and silly games.

2. You can learn new things from almost anyone, including a giant purple dinosaur, a cartoon mouse or a cookie-eating monster. You just have to keep your eyes, ears and mind open.

3. There's nothing better in the whole world than a friend showing up at your door asking if you can come out and play. So don't mope around the house all by yourself. Go ahead. Ring a friend's doorbell!

4. Just because you have to eat things that are good for you doesn't mean you can't make a face when you do. Maybe that tofu-and-sprouts sandwich would actually taste better if you scowled at it for a while.

5. When you're indecisive, rock/paper/scissors is as good a way as any to make up your mind.

6. It's a phase. Sooner or later you'll grow out of it. This is true for "bad hair" phases, "fatter today than yesterday" phases, "can't do anything right" phases and "nobody likes me" phases.

7. If you lie, your parents are going to catch you. And even if you're 57 when it happens, you'll be sorry!

8. When things are scary and unfamiliar, the best thing to do is grab on to someone's hand.

9. Remembers: Its not what you say, it's how you say it.

10. Roll over on your other side to get a new perspective on things. Once you've mastered that skill, make sure always to check things out from different angles.

11. You should always have a draem about what you'll be when you grow up. That way, you'll have something to look forward to and always know in which direction you should go.

12. Half the time, the box something comes in is as much fun as the toy inside. So play with the box!

13. Coloring on the walls and floor is fun, even if you do get in trouble later. (And you will!!) Sometimes you just have to express yourself no matter what the consequences.

14. If you don't like the person you are or where your life is going, it's time to play "Let's Pretned." If you use your vivid imagination, you can become whoever you want to be.

15. The word no is very imporatant. Use it at least as often as a three-year-old does.
